WHAT ABOUT MUSIC...
If you have any questions about music, music rights and music to be used in productions or want to record your own music or songs. Then be at the upcoming event where Mart-Marie Schoeman and Helmut Meijer will answer your questions and share their passion for the industry and music. Please see below about other events Mart-Marie Schoeman is hosting and also information about Helmut Meijer.

Artist | Composer | Producer
Born in Cape Town in the autumn of 1978, Helmut Meijer was raised up in a haven of spirited and eclectic musicianship - his Dutch father a maestro of Pipe organ improvisation; his mother fast and fluent on the piano. Resisting at first their lead, Helmut finally plunged into the world of the piano in die mid 90's.
After completing a degree in science (1998 - 2000), he pursued and graduated as a Master of Philosophy in Music Technology (cum laude) at the University of Stellenbosch in 2004 - A period during which he also lectured at the University of Stellenbosch as part of the Under- and Postgraduate programs in Music Technology.
During his university years, he was part of a local band, Merchant Seal, as keyboardist and vocalist. It was during these years that he discovered and transpired as music programmer - and eventually as music producer - for several campus music acts.
In 2001 he co-founded the South African Independent Record Label, Merchant Records, currently operating as Merchant Music under the direction of South African Gospel Music Icon, Louis Brittz. As producer of Merchant Records, Helmut made best-selling records for world music groups DNA Strings (SAMA winners of several categories) and Zamar, amongst others.
In 2005 he worked as recording engineer for the American band Switchfoot on their “Nothing is Sound” record, partially recorded in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
Leaving Merchant Records, Helmut founded the Stellenbosch-based boutique production facility of Helmut Meijer Music in August 2005. Since 2007, Helmut had become involved with the UK’s premier production facility, Abbey Road Studios, where he worked on one of the first South African productions mastered there and continues to pioneer high quality productions associated with the British music industry.
Between May 2008 and April 2009 Helmut spent a year in the United Kingdom lecturing in Film & Applied Music Composition at the British Academy of New Music (Access to Music Ltd.) in London, as well as studying the mainstream production techniques of the first world.
Helmut returned to South Africa in May 2009, where he continues to compose and produce original music for some of the finest artists from South Africa and abroad, amongst others Carol Thorns (solo electric cellist & electric cellist of CODA), Sterling Electric Quartet, Bravo, Shelley Frost (The Fridge, Dubai), Judy Brown (Cape Town saxophonist), CODA etc.
Amongst others, Helmut had performed with and produced music for South African Idols Winner, Heinz Winckler. Over the past decade, Helmut had also been performing locally with top South African artists, as well as in the UK and Middle East with artists from New Zealand, Australia, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan and the United States.
In 2009 he completed his debut solo electronica album “Seven Years to Yesterday” at Abbey Road Studios in London, UK. Still unreleased in South Africa, it is breaking down iron doors on the international ambient/electronica music scene.
Helmut is furthermore signed to the British Independent Dance Music Label, Ebony Red Records www.ebonyredrecords.com), where he continues to produce remixes for international artists. He had recently been ranked under the Top 30 dance music remixers in the world.
All of his Afrikaans Contemporary Christian music productions had received Lyre Awards. And two of his productions was nominated for SAMA’s in 2010.
In 2011 Helmut Meijer & Heinz Winckler co-founded the leading Production Consultancy “Meijer-Winckler Future Sound Architects” in partnership with publicist Charl Van Heyningen Enterprises, focussing on the training of up-andcoming artists and producers for the future of music production in South Africa and abroad. With countless compositions and productions and several hundreds of tracks to his credit, Helmut Meijer is associated with the esoteric fusion of cutting edge World, Electronica and Ambient Music. Helmut Meijer co-owns the digital music publishing house, New Tunes Music Publishing, as well as co-owns the Sub-Publisher, Helmut Meijer Music Publishing, currently signed exclusively to Active Music Publishing Pty Ltd.
